A crowd of EBS employees marched to the government building on Dr. Street. Sophie Redmondstraat is where the Vice President's office is located. The employees, who have been on strike for several days over the dismissal of union president Marciano Hellings, are demanding the dismissal of EBS director Leo Brunswick, who is also the brother of the government official, as well as the dismissal of the entire management team.
While chanting slogans such as: “Un weri, Leo e gi un mankeri”, they clearly expressed their dissatisfaction.
The dismissed president of the association was also among the crowd. Judge Susan Chu ordered the striking EBS union on Tuesday, May 14, to resume work within half an hour, after EBS management went to court. So this doesn't seem to have happened. On the contrary, dissatisfied employees took to the streets again.
The group was received and addressed by VP Brunswijk at the government building. The petition submitted to the government official stated, among other things, that the company's management was violating the basic human rights of its employees. He demanded that the dismissal of the association president be immediately annulled.
Vice President Brunswick indicated that he respects the opinions of the striking employees. He said: “This is your right.” However, the Vice President stressed the need to solve problems and not add more fuel to the fire.
He also says that negotiations should not be at knife's length. He promised to discuss the petition within the Cabinet session.
