Detective Martin Brown Lee, a spokesperson for the New York City Police Department, told CNN that the convoy was traveling on Fifth Avenue in midtown Manhattan, and eventually encountered a group of counter-protesters upon reaching Times Square.
A separate law enforcement official told CNN that the convoy is believed to be organized by a group calling itself “Jews for Trump.” CNN’s WLNY reported that the motorcade set off from Brooklyn and made its way to Manhattan on Sunday.
A law enforcement official said that when the convoy met a group of anti-protesters in Times Square, some Trump supporters got out of their cars and attacked other protesters.
CNN has reached out to Jews for Trump for comment.
Twelve people were arrested in connection with the clashes in three regions, according to a law enforcement official. The group of charges included assault, disorderly behavior, reckless endangerment, and obstruction of traffic.

In footage of an accident near Central Park, a protester is seen tearing a flag associated with the Blue Lives Matter from a single vehicle. The demonstrators chanted, “Black life is important,” while some began stepping on the banner, “Zarqa’s life is important.”
Blue Lives Matter is a nationwide law enforcement group that its supporters originally formed to counter the Black Lives Matter movement.

At one point, protesters also shouted insults at Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s personal attorney and former New York City mayor. He told the New York Times that he was taking off a radio show when he met the group on Fifth Avenue. Police were heard trying to contain the protesters on the sidewalk during the exchange.
CNN contacted Giuliani for comment.
The clashes between the opposing factions came just over a week before Election Day.
