Australia wants longer ban for cyclist Richardson

Right to left

Cycling Australia hopes and expects that cyclist Matthew Richardson, who has moved to Great Britain, will not be allowed to compete internationally for the next two years. According to UCI rules, Harry Lavresen's main rival will miss the upcoming European and World Championships, but according to AusCycling, the 25-year-old Richardson will have to miss more competitions.

“We are confident that the UCI will abide by the period of no competitions stipulated in the rules,” a spokesman for the Australian federation told Reuters. Sports director Jesse Korff had already told Australian media that he was currently considering Richardson’s ban with the UCI, among others. “There is disappointment with his decision and the whole process. We have not heard anything about his situation,” Korff said.

The UCI and British Cycling were not immediately available for comment.

English-born Richardson won two silver medals for Australia at the Paris Olympics, in the sprint and the keirin. He came third with the sprint team. Gold went to Lavreysen in all those components.
