The National Gallery, based in the Australian capital, Canberra, has so far rejected all attempts to remove the painting, saying in a statement that it welcomes public dialogue about the collection and exhibitions.

Before being shown in Canberra, the painting was on public display for several months in the Australian city of Adelaide from October 2023 to January 2024 during the first exhibition of Namatjira's art at the Art Gallery of South Australia. The gallery confirmed that it had not received any request to remove the painting, the Sydney Morning Herald wrote.

There is talk on social media that Reinhart's attempt to hide the image in this way actually brought more attention to the painting.

This is also called the Streisand effect, a phenomenon in which a person or organization's attempts to hide or remove information draws attention to that information.

This designation was coined in 2003 when singer and actress Barbra Streisand tried to suppress the publication of photos of her Malibu home, inadvertently making her home the biggest news.

    The richest person in Australia

Reinhart, 70, is CEO of Hankook Exploration, a private mineral exploration and extraction company.

She is the richest person in Australia and her fortune is estimated at $30.6 billion, according to a Forbes report.
