Vince McMahon gives a deadline for WWE stars to end third-party deals

Vince McMahon gives a deadline for WWE stars to end third-party deals

Michael McCann, September 5, 2020

Vince McMahon appears to have finished working with his talent with third parties and is trying to put an end to it.

Wrestling Inc reported on Friday that WWE’s Chairman and CEO had sent a decree last week that the talent was no longer able to “engage with outside parties.” This would be the likes of Cameo and Twitch.

The company held a call with the wrestlers last Sunday about reinventing the product, and stated that WWE owns the real names of the talent, not just the names of their characters.

Then on Thursday McMahon issued a message stating that it is imperative that they promote and protect the brand in every possible way. Thus, wrestlers have 30 days to stop engaging with third parties.

“Some of you do business with outside parties by using your name and likeness to you in ways that harm our company,” McMahon wrote. “It is essential that these activities end within the next 30 days (by Friday, October 2). Ongoing violations will result in fines, suspension or termination at WWE’s discretion.”

McMahon added that these measures are necessary as part of the WWE rebuilding process as it is set to enter the next phase of growth in WWE.

Shortly after the news spread, Renee Young, who had recently left the company, sent this hilarious message:

Sooooooo guessing now will be the right time to release Twitch and Cameo ??

It’ll be interesting to see if everyone in WWE stops using Cameo or Twitch. AJ Styles has gained a large number of followers on his Twitch account recently.
