Bombardier Global 8000 Completes Los Angeles–Farnborough Flight in Under Nine Hours
FARNBOROUGH — Bombardier’s flagship Global 8000 business jet has established a new speed record on the route between Los Angeles and Farnborough, reinforcing its position as the fastest civil aircraft in service since the retirement of Concorde.
The aircraft completed the journey from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Farnborough Airport (FAB) in the United Kingdom in 8 hours and 46 minutes, reaching a top speed of Mach 0.93 despite encountering unfavorable tailwinds across the Atlantic. The record-setting flight brought the aircraft to the 2026 Farnborough International Airshow, where it is making its first aerial display appearance.
The latest milestone highlights Bombardier’s efforts to position the Global 8000 as the premier ultra-long-range business jet, combining high-speed performance with extended range and passenger comfort.
Record Flight Highlights Aircraft Performance
Bombardier said the Global 8000 completed the Los Angeles-to-Farnborough route approximately 2.2% faster than the previous record for the same city pair, adding another achievement to the aircraft’s growing list of performance milestones.
The Global 8000 succeeds the Global 7500, which entered service in 2018 and accumulated numerous speed records during its operational life. The new aircraft builds on that legacy with enhanced performance and operational capabilities.
Designed for long-range business travel, the Global 8000 has a maximum operating speed of Mach 0.95 and a range of 8,000 nautical miles, allowing operators to connect more city pairs nonstop than competing business jets. The aircraft is powered by two General Electric Passport engines, providing the thrust needed for its high-speed capabilities while supporting long-distance missions.
Focus on Long-Range Comfort
Alongside performance, Bombardier has emphasized passenger comfort as a key feature of the aircraft.
The Global 8000 includes a four-zone cabin designed for long-haul travel and features the lowest cabin altitude in production business aviation at 2,691 feet. Lower cabin altitude is intended to reduce passenger fatigue during extended flights, while the aircraft also incorporates what the manufacturer describes as a smooth ride and a luxury cabin environment.
Airport Access Expands Operational Flexibility
In addition to speed and range, Bombardier says the Global 8000 offers greater operational flexibility through its short-field landing capability.
According to the company, the aircraft can access up to 30% more airports than its nearest competitor, enabling passengers to fly closer to their final destinations while giving operators more options when planning routes. The combination of extended range, high cruising speed, and expanded airport access is central to Bombardier’s strategy for the aircraft in the competitive business aviation market.
Executive Highlights Aircraft Capabilities
Stephen McCullough, Executive Vice President, Engineering, Product Development and Bombardier Defense, said, “This new speed record illustrates the truly special attributes of this incredible aircraft, the industry leader in terms of speed, agility and performance. Speed is without a doubt the Global 8000’s calling card, and this latest accomplishment aptly underscores what sets this aircraft apart – the ability to bring the world closer and closer than ever before. And when combined with the aircraft’s signature smooth ride, luxurious cabin, low cabin altitude and unmatched landing capabilities – including the ability to reach up to 30% more airports than its nearest competitor – it’s truly in a class of its own.”
The comments underscore Bombardier’s focus on positioning the Global 8000 as a premium aircraft capable of delivering faster travel times without sacrificing passenger experience or operational versatility.
Global 8000 Continues Momentum Following Entry Into Service
The Global 8000 officially entered service on Dec. 8, 2025, during a delivery ceremony near Toronto Pearson International Airport in Mississauga, Ontario. Before entering commercial service, the aircraft received Transport Canada certification on Nov. 5, 2025, followed by approval from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration on Dec. 19, 2025.
Its arrival marked the introduction of the fastest civil aircraft to enter service since Concorde ceased operations in 2003.
The record-setting transatlantic flight to the Farnborough International Airshow further demonstrates the aircraft’s capabilities as Bombardier showcases its newest flagship to customers and industry leaders. With its combination of near-supersonic speed, ultra-long-range capability, expanded airport access, and passenger-focused cabin design, the Global 8000 is expected to strengthen Bombardier’s position in the high-end business aviation market while setting new benchmarks for performance in the sector.
