Soft Opening Signals Next in S$45 Million Renovation
SINGAPORE — Singapore Airlines has quietly unveiled a significantly upgraded interim Business Class lounge at Singapore Changi Airport’s Terminal 2, marking a major milestone in its ongoing S$45 million lounge transformation project.
The newly opened SilverKris Business Class lounge, now accessible to eligible passengers, replaces the former facility with a brighter, more contemporary environment. The space occupies what was previously designated as the First Class lounge, offering what many travelers will view as an immediate and substantial improvement.
“The new temporary lounge occupies the former First Class space, creating an unexpected and welcome change from the previous tired and dark facility.”
The soft launch was not formally announced, aligning with the airline’s understated rollout approach. The move follows the debut of the new First Class SilverKris lounge in Terminal 2 late last year, which freed up the former First Class area for redevelopment and interim use.
Layout Changes and Expansion Plans
Passengers familiar with the old layout will notice a change in direction upon entry. Instead of turning left at the escalator corridor, Business Class travelers now head right to access the lounge.
This temporary configuration represents only part of the final vision. Once construction is complete, the current space will merge with the renovated former Business Class area, forming a significantly expanded lounge footprint expected to be completed by 2027.
An enlarged KrisFlyer Gold lounge will also be introduced as a separate facility with its own entrance, while the current KrisFlyer Gold lounge remains unchanged for now.
A Brighter, More Modern Design
T3-Inspired Aesthetic Enhances Passenger Experience
The design of the new lounge closely mirrors the highly regarded Terminal 3 SilverKris Business Class lounge. Warm wood finishes, tan and slate-blue seating, and refined ceiling details contribute to a consistent premium brand identity.
A long corridor greets passengers after reception, with dining-style seating arranged along one side. Burnt-orange leather chairs—recognizable from Terminal 3—add visual continuity and comfort.
Natural light is a defining upgrade. Previously, the Terminal 2 lounge was criticized for its enclosed, dimly lit atmosphere. The new space introduces a row of opaque windows that allow daylight to filter in, transforming the overall ambiance.
Productivity and Work-Friendly Features
Among the standout additions are the Productivity Pods, designed to cater to business travelers needing privacy and functionality. Four pods are currently available, offering power outlets and dedicated workspaces.
The final lounge is expected to accommodate approximately 320 passengers, suggesting additional pods will be introduced as the expansion progresses.
Dining, Beverages, and Amenities
Enhanced Food and Drink Options
The lounge includes a buffet area complemented by a live cooking station, where freshly prepared dishes are made to order. Beverage options have also improved, with self-service wine and beer fridges, champagne selections, and Crossroads craft beer now available on tap.
However, one feature remains notably absent: a tended cocktail bar. This is expected to be incorporated into the final lounge design once sufficient space becomes available.
“The missing tended bar remains the only meaningful gap compared to the Terminal 3 Business Class SilverKris lounge today.”
Upgraded Bathrooms and Shower Facilities
Bathroom amenities align with Terminal 3 standards, featuring grey marble finishes, rain showers, and premium fixtures. Ten unisex shower rooms are currently operational—exceeding earlier expectations—and should help minimize wait times during peak periods.
For context, the Terminal 3 lounge offers 15 showers, suggesting the Terminal 2 facility is already competitive in this regard despite being only partially complete.
A Noticeable Improvement Over the Past
From “Poor Cousin” to Competitive Offering
Historically, the Terminal 2 SilverKris Business Class lounge lagged behind its Terminal 3 counterpart, often described as cramped and outdated. The new interim space significantly changes that perception.
“It is not a downgrade in any meaningful sense from the T3 facility.”
With upgraded seating, improved lighting, modern workspaces, and enhanced amenities, the lounge now offers a comparable experience—arguably exceeding expectations for a temporary setup.
Capacity constraints may still arise, as the current lounge represents only about half of the eventual space. Additional features, including rest areas and the full-service bar, will be introduced in later phases.
Looking Ahead
For now, Business Class passengers departing from Terminal 2 can expect a markedly improved pre-flight experience compared to just weeks ago. The phased rollout suggests further enhancements are imminent as construction continues.
A comprehensive evaluation of the lounge, including its full dining offering, is expected once the final facility is completed.
“Passengers flying Singapore Airlines (SQ) Business Class from Terminal 2 at Changi Airport (SIN) can expect a much better lounge experience than even a week ago.”
