The well-known statues of Android releases have been removed from Google's US headquarters. Until Android 10, Google would put a new statue in the park near its office every year to symbolize a new Android release.

    Robot statues gone

Anyone who has been following Android news for long is likely familiar with Google’s wonderful tradition of posting statues announcing the release of new Android versions. From Android Cupcake (1.5) to Android Pie (9.0), a new statue appears every year in Google Park in Mountain View, USA.

Android Authority has now discovered, based on reviews on Google Maps, that all the statues have been removed. “It’s a wasteland. All the statues have been removed. It’s just a wasteland,” says one reviewer who visited the site.

    Why did they leave?

Google didn’t give a specific reason for the removal of the images. One possibility is that they were cleaned up and restored. Visitors to the Maps app have previously written that the images were not properly maintained. Some are now more than a decade old.

Although, of course, there is also the possibility that Google will remove the images from Google Campus altogether. After all, the company stopped naming Android versions after sweet desserts since the release of Android 10. However, developers still use dessert names internally and you can also spot this in Android beta builds, such as in the Android 13 developer previews where the name “Tiramisu” appears in various places.

Have you ever been able to see Android images in the US? Maybe you're sad that they've been removed or that Google has stopped honoring the sweet treats with its Android releases? Let us know in the comments below this article.
