The attack on aid workers at the World Central Kitchen in Gaza was the result of a “serious mistake,” according to the Israeli military. Seven people from different countries were killed. Australia and the United States reacted angrily last night.

The Israeli army carried out air strikes this week targeting a convoy belonging to the World Relief Organization Central Kitchen (WCK). Among the seven dead were a Palestinian, a Polish, an Australian, three Britons, and a person holding dual Canadian and American citizenship.

    “wrong identification”

Israeli army chief Herzi Halevy responded last night video On attacks. He spoke of a “fatal mistake” committed by the army. “It shouldn't have happened,” he said. According to Halevy, the emergency workers were attacked by “misidentifying” the cars in the convoy.

WCK previously announced that the convoy's route had been previously discussed with the Israeli military. Al Jazeera, the only major media organization still present in the Gaza Strip, investigated the incident.

Based on open source information, witness statements, and photos from the scene of the attack, the channel concluded that the attacks were carried out deliberately.

    “Totally unacceptable”

Meanwhile, world leaders are responding to the attack. US President Joe Biden said last night that he was “angry and heartbroken.” He continued: “What is most tragic is that this is not an isolated incident.” “This conflict is one of the worst conflicts in modern history, if you look at the number of aid workers who have died.”

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also spoke of the attack as “completely unacceptable”.

    Foreign victims

Middle East correspondent Bipin Nagzam confirmed yesterday that the attack is certainly not the first fatal shooting on an aid convoy. He added, “At least 200 Palestinian aid workers have been killed since October.” “The fact that there is now so much interest in this matter is also because six of the seven victims are foreigners.”

Israeli President Isaac Herzog yesterday apologized for the “tragic deaths” of aid workers in a phone conversation with WCK founding president José Andrés.

An eyewitness talks about the deadly attack that occurred yesterday. “It was clear that the vehicle belonged to emergency responders.”
