Washington (ANP/AFP/RTR) – The United States said it had raised its concerns with Israel about the planned attack on Rafah in the Gaza Strip. The White House said that Israel promised to “take these concerns into account.”

The White House statement came after a video conference between the two countries, attended from the American side by Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.

At around the same time, France proposed a draft resolution to the UN Security Council calling for UN monitoring of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The resolution also includes proposals to help the Palestinian Authority assume its responsibilities in Gaza.

The draft resolution also calls for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza and demands the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages still being held in Gaza by Hamas and others. The resolution does not mention anything about the thousands of Palestinians who have been arrested and detained by Israel without trial since October 7.

Last Monday, the Security Council voted in favor of an immediate ceasefire during the month of Ramadan, which ends next week. Despite this decision, Israel continued its attack on the Gaza Strip.
