The Brainport region is happy with the extra billions coming from The Hague to Brabant. The government, in cooperation with the region, is investing 2.5 billion euros in the Brainport region. On the one hand to keep the chip machine manufacturer ASML here and on the other hand to improve the accessibility of the area.

As if the championship trophy for PSV Eindhoven had already been received. There is no doubt that such an atmosphere will prevail in Eindhoven City Hall on Thursday. Eindhoven Mayor, Jeroen Dijsselbloem, expressed his great satisfaction. “This is an important moment for this region. Things are going well, but we need to continue to grow in a healthy way.”

According to Dijsselbloem, keeping the region running smoothly requires a lot and it is necessary to jointly invest 2.5 billion euros in public facilities. “It is a very large investment. We recognize that. It has great national and European importance. It is an opportunity that cannot be missed.”

Investment for the next five years
Previously, an amount ranging from 5 to 8 billion was requested, but this was not possible. Mayor Dijsselbloem explains that the current government will take over until a new government is formed. “The Cabinet could not release such a large amount until 2040. Then we said, let's talk until 2030, and then we can at least start. This is in any case an investment for the next five years.” The former finance minister says discussions should continue with subsequent ministries.

Deputy Martin van Groijthuisen from Economy, Talent Development and Finance also expressed his satisfaction. “There has been intense pressure. There have been intense negotiations, but in the end we all see the importance of this investment for Brabant and Brainport. The last few weeks have been very intense and challenging. With the right sanding, we have achieved the right shine.”

    ASML welcomes 'rapid action'
ASML in Veldhoven told Omroep Brabant in its response that it was pleased with the “quick steps and actions taken by the Dutch government.” “The improvement in the Dutch business climate benefits companies and their employees, but it certainly benefits the Netherlands as a whole.” ASML says the plans submitted “strongly support these conditions”.

“As we have said before, we would like to realize a significant portion of our expansion plans in the Netherlands. But expansion plans must be supported by the availability of high-quality talent, infrastructure, housing and a strong overall business climate.” ASML explains.
