Never before has the Eurovision Song Contest reached number one in the Netherlands before the actual concert. No song in the Eurovision Song Contest has ever reached number one. It has happened ten times before a Eurovision Song Contest entry came in first in the Dutch Top 40, but only twice has it come to the Dutch entry. Duncan Laurence and S10 only managed to reach No. 1 with “Arcade” (2019) and “De Diepte” (2022).
It seems that success is only the beginning for “Europapa”. The song is currently the most popular song on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes and Deezer in the Netherlands. Joost is also No. 1 on Spotify in Belgium. The artist has yet to make it to the Ultratop 50. The song's video is currently the #1 “trending” video on YouTube and is approaching eight million views.
Another unique one
There are more special performances happening in the Netherlands Top 40. There are two newcomers to the roster this week, and the distance between them couldn't be greater. So Joost Klein is at #1, “Beat of your heart” by Purple Disco Machine and Ásdís is at #40, last place. Something like this had never happened before when there were two newcomers.
The Eurovision Song Contest will take place from May 7 to 11 in Malmö, Sweden. Just like Belgian player Musti, Joost Klein will take part in the second semi-final, on Thursday 9 May.
