Train traffic in the United Kingdom was largely paralyzed on Tuesday due to a strike by railway workers.

It is the first normal working day in the country after New Year's Eve, so many people are unable to travel to work. London's mainline train stations are virtually extinct.

The RMT union organized the strike, which lasted 48 hours. About 40,000 RMT members are participating in the campaign. The Aslaf Mechanics Union will also strike on Thursday. Railway unions have been taking action for some time to demand a significant increase in wages and better working conditions. Work also stopped several times before Christmas.

The British government calls on unions to return to the negotiating table. According to the government, these measures harm railways and cause inconvenience to passengers. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said he was disappointed by the strikes.

There are also measures in other sectors in the UK, including driving examiners and road police.
