The TikTok account was revealed during the Super Bowl, the most popular sporting event in the United States. In the first post, the president always has to choose between two things, such as his favorite candidate in the NFL game and his favorite presidential candidate, himself or Donald Trump.
The launch is notable because TikTok, which is owned by Chinese tech giant ByteDance, is under investigation in the United States for potential national security risks. Some US lawmakers want to ban the app because they fear the Chinese government could access user data or influence what people see in the app. Last year, the Biden administration directed government agencies to remove TikTok from federally owned phones and devices.
The Biden campaign administration said, in a statement on Sunday, that it wants to reach voters on all possible platforms. This will also include Trump's social media, Truth Social. The campaign team says it has taken “extensive security measures” for the devices on which the apps are installed, and asserts that Biden's use of the app is separate from the investigation into TikTok's security risks.
