German rail union GDL may go on strike again in a long-running labor dispute with Deutsche Bahn. This is what was decided by the Frankfurt Labor Court. Deutsche Bahn has gone to court to prevent a national strike by train drivers, among others.
The GDL called for a new national strike on Sunday. It starts on Wednesday morning and lasts three days. The reason for the planned strike is the cessation of discussions about wage increases and shortened working weeks with Deutsche Bahn and other railway companies.
Deutsche Bahn claimed that there was no legal basis for the strike, but the court rejected this. The German state railway company can appeal the decision. According to the company, the strike is “completely unnecessary.”
Since negotiations began in early November, GDL has twice halted trains with strikes across the country. This caused major disruptions to German train traffic, as well as international trains from the Netherlands to Germany.
