If you looked out your window Thursday evening, you probably saw a colorful sky. You may have seen rare pearly clouds. The cloud type can be seen in various places over the Netherlands and Belgium, Weerplaza reports.

According to Weerplaza, these rare clouds can only be seen once every few years. The last time they were seen in our country was Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in 2018.

The air was cool enough Thursday night for colorful pearly clouds to form. So the temperature should be around -80 degrees or colder. As for the northwest and north of our country, the weather in the highlands was very cold.

Mother-of-pearl clouds form 20 to 30 kilometers high in the ozone layer. It contains hardly any moisture. The little moisture that does exist only condenses when the temperature is below -80. Thin clouds containing small ice crystals then form, refracting sunlight. This allows us to see colorful clouds.

Colors may vary, many are pink and purple. But sometimes almost all the colors of the rainbow can be seen.

In the coming days, the air temperature at an altitude of 25 km will rise and clouds will probably not be visible from our country.
