The United States is also working on artificial intelligence rules

In the United States, the NIST standards institute is working to establish rules for the safe deployment of artificial intelligence. Just last week, Europe introduced similar legislation.

The Biden administration wants standards and guidelines for generative AI, like ChatGPT or Google Bard. It relies on the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), which is now seeking input from companies and the general public through February 2.

The goal should be to establish standards for AI, but also to test environments in which AI can be evaluated. The focus is, among other things, on risk management and reducing the risks of misinformation generated by artificial intelligence.

This detail comes a week after the European Union voted to reject its artificial intelligence law. This will divide systems into a low or high risk profile, complete with some blocked applications and exceptions to them.

Although we should note that one does not follow from the other. European legislation has been in the works for about two years, and was extensively rewritten in the past year to respond to new trends such as generative artificial intelligence. In the United States, people have also been thinking about such rules for some time, for example, Joe Biden issued a presidential order in October to develop standards for the sector, which is work now underway.
