Taylor Swift’s film also tops the list of the most attended films in American cinemas in the second week after its release. Her Eras Tour recording grossed $31 million in the United States in its second weekend. Total global revenue now stands at more than $160 million. The film cost $15 million and was financed by the singer herself.
The Eras Tour is a recording of the concert series in which Swift is now touring around the world. It’s remarkable that the film is actually watchable, because Swift will be traveling the world with her concerts for at least another year. However, all shows are already sold out. The film can be seen at Pathé Theaters in the Netherlands.
In second place is the thriller Killers of the Flower Moon, directed by Martin Scorsese. The nearly four-hour saga about murders that occurred in a Native American community in the early 1900s grossed $23 million in its first weekend. This makes it the third best opening ever for a film by the 80-year-old Scorsese. Only Shutter Island (2010, 41 million) and The Departed (2006, 26 million) grossed more in their first weekend.
American media point out that it is striking that a relatively large number of young moviegoers come to see the film. Killers of the Flower Moon features two regular stars with whom Scorsese often collaborates: Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio.
