Dutchmen Kjeld Nuys and Marcel Bosker completed their dominant display on the opening day of the ISU World Cup

Kjeld Nuis and Marcel Bosker completed a dominant display for the Netherlands in Stavanger as they added to Jutta Leerdam and Irene Schouten’s previous gold medals on the opening day of the ISU World Cup event.

Noyes, the Olympic champion in the 1,500 meters, won the gold medal with a time of 1 minute and 08.76 seconds, despite not liking some of the “sloppy” races.

He beat Tatsuya Shinhama in the penultimate pairing of the day as the Japanese skater settled for silver while teammate Kazuya Yamada finished third by claiming a World Cup podium finish for the first time in his career.

Bosker took the opportunity to compete in the mass start after withdrawing from the 5000m heats due to illness and cruised to victory in a time of 7:57.11.

It was the Dutchman’s first team gold medal start of his career, with Switzerland’s Livio Wenger and Belgium’s Bart Swings coming out on top in the final race to take silver and bronze.

In the women, Leerdam and Schouten recovered from disappointment in Beijing to win gold in their respective events.

Leerdam faced China’s Han Mei in the final doubles of the 1,000-meter race, and the world champion finished the race 0.26 seconds ahead of the leader Miho Takagi of Japan, recording a time of 1:15.26.

Although she is tied with leader Takagi in the overall standings, the Dutch skater will miss next week’s round in Poland.

After being relegated to the long-distance B division due to her eighth-place finish in the 3,000m in Beijing, Louchen stormed to gold in the Mass Start.

She joined a strong three-way breakaway and took the win after a strong final lap, leaving Valerie Maltese and Mia Kilburg Manganiello in second and third with a time of 8:36.25.
