Club Brugge, AA Gent and Racing Genk want to continue their good European start

Club Brugge, AA Gent and Racing Genk want to continue their good European start

Brian Rodriguez, October 25, 2023

The three Belgian teams started the group stage with a score of 4/6. The goal is a top two finish in the group and the associated European winter and that seems achievable for every team.

Club Brugge hopes to restore confidence in Lugano after five matches without a win in the competition. In between, they won 0-1 at Norway’s Bodo/Glimt Stadium, but recent defeats to Standard (2-1) and Kortrijk (1-0) have left their mark. It won’t be easy in Switzerland either. Lugano, like Klopp, has four points and surprised Turkish Besiktas (2-3) at home the day before the match. The Swiss lost to Union in the European League qualifiers this summer.

Gent suffered their first league defeat this season against Cercle Brugge (2-0) on Sunday, but had to settle for splitting the points in the previous three matches. After a 1-1 draw against Ukraine’s Zorya Luhansk, the European team beat Israel’s Maccabi Tel Aviv 2-0. Ghent and Luhansk lead Group B with four points. No mistake can be made against Breidablik, which currently occupies last place in the group without points.

Finally, Genk impressed on Sunday with an impressive 4-0 win over Mechelen. The double clash with Ferencvaros in the coming weeks promises to be important for progress in Group F. Both teams have four points, while Fiorentina, the favorite in the group, has only two points. Genk opened the group stage with a 2-2 draw against Fiorentina, then beat Serbian Kokarecki 0-2.
