A federal judge in Oakland, California, on Tuesday blocked an action taken by the US government to limit immigration at the US southern border. This is a setback for the current immigration policy of the Joe Biden administration.

The judge’s decision goes into effect in two weeks, leaving the Biden administration an opportunity to appeal.

The policy, which restricts asylum to immigrants who enter the United States through a third country without seeking protection on their way, is a key part of the Biden administration’s plan to reduce the number of immigrants entering the United States without a permit each month. Reduce entry.

The government fears that without this policy, the number of people crossing the border illegally will rise and public resources will be strained. In June, after these measures came into effect, the number of illegal crossings reached its lowest level in more than two years.

Migrants are now required to make an appointment at the border crossing via the app. US officials have also promoted a system that allows immigrants from Cuba, Venezuela, Haiti and Nicaragua to apply for entry into the US, provided they have a financial sponsor and pass through security.

The same judge banned former President Donald Trump’s version of the policy in 2019, prompting the Supreme Court to later overturn the judge’s decision.

Opponents believe that the current administration’s current policy is due to the policy of Republican President Trump, who was explicitly anti-immigration.
