The Budapest World Cup will go down in the books as the most successful World Cup ever for Dutch athletes. With Sunday’s women’s relay gold in the 4x400m, the Orange team closes the tournament with a record number of medals.

Forty Dutch athletes (this is also a record) took home five medals in the Hungarian capital.

That’s one more than it was at last year’s World Cup in Eugene. Moreover, the Netherlands did not get gold in the American city even once. She remained three times silver and once bronze.

In Budapest, Fimke Paul was crowned world champion in the 400m and, along with Lieke Claver, Kathleen Peters and Evelyn Salberg, won gold in the 4x400m event on Sunday. Sifan Hasan won the silver (5000m) and bronze (1500m), then Anouk Vetter took the bronze in the heptathlon.
