Voices of Wilhelmus at Dorsetplein | Bot was born

Voices of Wilhelmus at Dorsetplein | Bot was born

Brian Rodriguez, August 27, 2023

With a successful bike run, it’s hard to choose between a leisurely Saturday in Millpool

On Saturday afternoon, it’s time again for the annual Run Bike Run, a traditional highlight of Melbuul’n Fourth Day. This year, for the first time, as an official championship for the Dutch Duathlon. They came to Bourne from all over the country and even from abroad. There were two hundred participants in the Dutch Championship. In total, about six hundred sports fans showed up at the start.

The winner extends his national title
Voices of Wilhelmus at Dorsetplein | Bot was bornAt 3 p.m., after waiting nervously for a kickoff shot by RBR Chief Martin Van Bree, the Gentlemen fired off the starting blocks. Three minutes later, the ladies started their game. The men’s winner was Dan de Groot. With this he extended his national title.

In the end he was very happy. “It went better than expected and the quick and smooth transition from cycling to running gave me a huge boost to win.” Dan then proudly stood on stage at Dorsetplein to listen to Wilhelmus. With fond memories of Born, he returned to Switzerland, where he now lives. Joris Lintvert became the best native of Bornen in the Dutch championship. Alin Kotstra of Zwolle was the best of the ladies. Here, Sjhadré Olij was the highest ranking Borne.

In the duet that started at 4pm, Timothy Oldie Polhar and Bass Sutter can call themselves the fastest of Bourne.

The results are men

  1. Dan de Groot Lauzen (Switzerland)
  2. Thomas Kramers Elst
  3. Valentin van Versch Rotterdam

The results are ladies

  1. Allen Kotstra Zwolle
  2. Sophie van der Most Nijmegen
  3. Saskia van Vogt Dreibergen-Riesenburg

Walking around is also fun

It has been proven more than once that Melbuul’nSaturday is not only a great day when it comes to running and/or cycling. In fact… even while strolling, standing or sitting comfortably on one of the many patio chairs, it has all been shown to be ‘doable’ for many visitors – including many from our partner city Rhine. The packaged program offered something for everyone. In addition to the fair, kids can enjoy and admire amazing firefighting displays, practice and excel on a real skating rink, blow off steam in one of the huge bouncy castles or win a prize in a game of musical bingo.

The “big boys” had fun strolling along the long line of book stalls and into the gallery, where charities and trade exhibitors together presented a colorful array. And then there was the Specialty Beer Festival and Wine Court. It turns out to be a great hangout for the young and old to enjoy the pleasures of life and subject all drinks to ‘expert’ judgment while tasting or sipping. From 8.30pm, the fourth day of Melbuul’ndagen will conclude – or perhaps even culminate in – with a dazzling performance of the PPM cover band in Dorsetplein.

Tomorrow Sunday is already the last of the five busy days. For the programme, we would like to refer you to our site off calendar. (DJ/KWD/RH/AJ/BM)
