Netflix has been the biggest streaming service for years, but did you know that it also started renting DVDs? They’ll stop for now, but not before they surprise their most loyal fans once again.
Last April, the streaming giant announced that after no less than 25 years it would discontinue its DVD-by-mail service. Netflix announced this week to its members, though they still have a surprise in store.
The final surprise
Users who receive the email have until the end of August to decide whether or not they want to participate. Netflix offers its members the possibility to “Win” bonus DVDs. You can have a maximum of ten additional movies in total.
Netflix will release DVDs for the last time at the end of September, but if you’re lucky you’ll get other movies as a gift, so you don’t have to pay for them, but you can still enjoy them. The streaming service keeps track of the movies you liked or still want to see and then sends them as well.
Are you back
It’s great, of course, for people who still use DVDs, but Netflix wants every movie back. The streaming giant is giving you one month, until the end of October, to watch DVDs. Then they must be returned.
Netflix is said to have rented more than 5 billion DVDs and Blu-Rays to subscribers in the US, but is now putting an end to the service. Since streaming has gotten so big these days, DVDs have stalled and don’t make enough money to keep going.
