The owner of the Blueberry Field Pancake House & Restaurant wants to put mimosas on his breakfast and lunch menu starting in September. These are cocktails consisting of champagne and orange juice.

Southampton is a suburb of Chicago, in the northern tip of Illinois. Alcoholic beverages have been banned so far due to the religious nature of the place.

    The rules relaxed

The rules have been relaxed in Southern Holland recently. Alcohol licenses can now be issued, provided alcohol is only ordered with food. So bars and liquor stores have yet to get the green light.

Banning the sale of alcoholic beverages has led to many discussions among church leaders, business people, and community organizations. With relaxation, the desire that has long been cherished by a large part of the population is fulfilled. By now, they had to go to the surrounding cities to have a drink.

    anxiety

The religious population of southern Holland is not happy about the approaching alcohol sales. Local church pastor Melvin L. Moore said, “Some people worry about what the future holds. Some see the congregation around us and how they’ve changed,” he told ABC 7 Chicago, a local station.

According to him, South Holland has always been a safe and religious village. Moore fears that will now change.

The mayor of the city is less interested. “With this step, we are looking forward to a bright future of progress and development, but doing so in a way that remains firm on our firm values of faith and family.”

“The feeling is that we can change what we do without changing who we are,” the mayor continued.

    20,000 inhabitants

South Holland officially became a municipality in 1894, after Dutch immigrants from South Holland settled there in 1846.

The village now has a population of over 20,000.
