The Netherlands-Spain World Cup cracker team will be led by referee Stephanie Frappart on Friday (kick-off at 3am). The 39-year-old Frenchwoman, who competed in the World Cup in Qatar last year, is considered one of the best referees in the world.
The Orange and Spanish Lionesses will complete the first of their four-game quarter-finals in Wellington. This will be Farabart’s fourth match in New Zealand and Australia. She is assisted by two French border judges. The fourth official is Italian Maria Ferreri Capote.
Frappart is known as the first ever female referee at the Men’s World Cup. The French player managed the group match between Germany and Costa Rica during the Qatar World Cup at the end of last year. She was also the first woman to referee the UEFA Champions League in 2021. Frapart was also the referee at the 2019 World Cup Final in France between the Lionesses and the United States. Stephanie van der Graagt conceded a controversial penalty.
