Yuga Labs, the publisher of Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs, has been the target of several lawsuits recently. For example, the company was going to entice celebrities to buy NFTs. But she is not shy about standing up for herself. Another artist has been sued by Yuga Labs for plagiarism.

    BAYC sued over NFT plagiarism

The company behind the hugely popular NFT suite actually started the lawsuit in July. Then it turned out that California artist Ryder Ripps used monkeys from the Bored Ape Yacht Club for a set that looked eerily similar to the original. The lawsuit hasn’t officially launched yet, but now it has.

Specifically, Yuga Labs has filed a lawsuit against Ryder Ripps and the founder of the NFT trading platform Not Larva Labs, Jeremy Cahen, in the District Court of California, United States. The defending party had asked the judge last October if the case could be dismissed, but a new request states that the judge does not agree to this.

In the movement, Rippes describes the case as an attack on his freedom of expression. This is why he is asking for a payout of at least $100 billion to shut down the business, ostensibly to take NFTs out of circulation. To The Block, Ripps stated:

RR/BAYC is a concept art highlighting Yuga Labs, stating that you cannot copy NFTs. There is nothing left [de beslissing van de rechter] Those objective facts can change.

    Multiple lawsuits for Yuga Labs

Meanwhile, Yuga Labs also finds itself in yet another lawsuit. Reportedly guilty of hype was Yuga Labs, which has even rewarded celebrities for buying NFTs.

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is also investigating Yoga Labs. Popular artworks could have been presented as unregistered securities. Ironically, the name of the trading platform on which the “stolen NFTs” were offered is “Not Larva Labs.” Larva Labs is the company behind CryptoPunk NFTs.
