(Belga) The baggage handlers at London Heathrow, one of the busiest airports in Europe, won’t be hitting this weekend after all. Earlier in the day it was reported that he was.

This work is an initiative of the United Trade Union and will start on Friday for three days. The union is calling for an increase of 13 percent for this year, while the administration would have proposed only 4 percent and 6.5 percent next year. Later on Thursday, Unite said “management has launched an improved proposal.” Thus plans to strike were postponed. The next action is scheduled for December 29-January 1 and will continue for the time being, pending a survey among field staff, Unite says. In the UK, there are also strikes in other sectors these days, such as the healthcare sector, postal services and railways. Border police will also go on strike over the holidays, which could also cause inconvenience at British ports and airports. (Belgium)
