TILBURG – On Friday, November 4, 2022, the technical committee of the ETZ (Elizabeth-Twisteden Hospital) will open the art exhibition: “If you have a headache, take the samba.” Artists Sangmin Oh, Sanne Bax and Phlox van Oppen will present their textile creations that day at 3.30pm at Leanplein (Route 74) at the ETZ Elisabeth site, Hilvarenbeekseweg 60. Works are on display through February 24, 2023 at the Piet Hein Eek Galleries in Impress Central Hall.

The exhibition title refers to the work “Thankspressure” (2020) by Sangmin Oh (1994), in collaboration with TextielLab Tilburg. It fuses Korean foot reflexology with Western dance into a grand texture. The pressure points in the mat with samba dancing provide a helpful headache treatment. Sangmin recently graduated from the Design Academy in Eindhoven.

    Ordinary is extraordinary

Saint Pax (1994) graduated from Gerrit Rietveld Academy in 2017. Since then she has exhibited her work in the Netherlands, the United States, Germany and Greece. In 2021, she also received a Beginning Artist Scholarship from the Mondrian Fund. Sany knows how to break up the seams through her production process. By treating natural wool from start to finish, they make wide carpets (“Composition of Cypress No. 3” and “Termite Hill No. 1”). The long process means thinking, among other things, about climate change and daily life. Flux van Oppen (1998, graduated this summer from the Académie des Beaux-Arts in The Hague) also takes a closer look at everyday life. In her fabric, she incorporated fluff from ETZ dryers, alongside rejected hospital clothing. Together, this tells the story of patients, doctors, nurses and ETZ visitors.

    Meditation and amazement

José Krijnen, Chair of the Artistic Committee: “Art offers visitors, but also employees, a moment of contemplation. It can sometimes acknowledge the feeling that prevails after a good or bad message. But also surprise and comfort. We want to give everyone the opportunity to discuss this with these tangible works of art. “.
