My Ambergris (97) is no more. Last summer, the woman survived a violent flood in Kentucky, but lost her home in a natural disaster. A photo of an elderly woman in distress went viral in the United States at the end of July. Her granddaughter had sent the photo to the world with a plea to quickly rescue her grandmother from the flooded house.

May’s son and grandson Larry was also present at the home in Irmine Town during the natural disaster – which killed at least 43 people. The trio eventually managed to reach safety by defying the current and swimming to a number of boats that appeared in the disaster area.
At that time, photos of this deceptive project were circulating in the United States.
For Mai, the rescue didn’t mean a good ending story. The approximately 100-year-old woman was hospitalized with pneumonia and then taken to a rest house to regain her strength.
Earlier this month, she was only staying with her son for a week when she died suddenly. “I think she died of a broken heart,” her granddaughter, Missy Amberghi Croveti, told the local press.
Mai has missed her home terribly. The floods caused damage and the site is uninhabitable to this day. Macy’s started a GoFundMe campaign shortly after the disaster to raise funds to work on the property.
“My grandmother’s house is in a shambles and, like many people in the area, may not be flood insured. Any help would be appreciated,” Missy shared on the World Wide Web in late July. “
The crowdfunding has so far raised more than $16,600 (more than 16,887 euros). It is unclear what will happen to the money.
One thing is certain for Mission: “If the floods hadn’t happened, if my grandmother hadn’t gone through that trauma, I think she would still be with us,” the young woman told the Lexington Herald-Leader.
