French refinery strike: Dozens of Dutch people stuck in empty tank | Currently

Jeffrey Clark, October 9, 2022

Dozens of Dutch motorists stopped in France with an empty tank, as the country’s gas stations ran out of fuel as a result of the strikes. The ANWB reports that since Friday, there have been dozens of requests for help from the Dutch, mainly from northern France and along the Route du Soleil.

According to ANWB, due to the strikes on oil refineries, fewer gas stations have enough fuel in stock. There are long lines at gas stations that still have enough fuel.

The ANWB advises motorists going to France to cross the border with a full tank. It is recommended to fill the fuel tank in Luxembourg or Belgium.

Not everyone can be helped

The ANWB also warns that it is not always possible to help people with breakdowns due to a lack of fuel. “depanneurs They are currently only used in unsafe situations along highways.”

To mitigate the impact of the strikes, Paris released fuel from its strategic fuel reserves. In this way, the French government hopes to provide as many gas stations as possible.

It is not known how long the shortage will last.
