KLM will cancel 42 departures in Schiphol on Monday. This happens after a previous call from the airport to carry fewer passengers. Schiphol suffers from a shortage of security personnel, which means that until the end of October, around 9,250 fewer passengers are allowed to depart per day than previously reported.

KLM has also canceled dozens of flights in recent days due to the situation in Schiphol. On Sunday there are 22. A spokesperson for Schiphol informs NU.nl that he is staying with those cancellations. Other airlines did not cancel flights on Sunday due to the security shortage.

The speaker cannot say how things will go in the coming days in Schiphol. “The independent openings coordinator will look into the details in the coming period, with the airlines.” A KLM spokesperson cannot say anything about the coming days. “It’s really looked at on a daily basis,” she says.

On Thursday, it was announced that Dick Benchob would be leaving the position of President of Schiphol. The pressure on the chief executive has increased after months of chaos caused by staff shortages.

KLM is the largest user of Schiphol. The company previously said it was “extremely upset” about the course of events. The spokesperson stresses that the airline prefers not to cancel flights, but does so with passengers in mind.
