Six months after the elections, The Hague is the last major city with a new college | Currently

Jeffrey Clark, September 14, 2022

The Hague is the last major municipality in the Netherlands to have a coalition. Five negotiating parties reached an agreement. Plans will be presented on Friday.

The municipality will inform you after reporting from the regional channel broadcast west. Municipal elections took place six months ago on 14, 15 and 16 March.

The board is made up of D66, VVD, GroenLinks, CDA and PvdA. These parties have formed a coalition since the end of 2019. They managed to increase their majority in the last municipal elections. However, the negotiations were very difficult.

The local Hart for Den Haag party belonging to former Alderman Richard de Moss received the most votes in the election, and was thus the first to attempt to form a coalition. It does not work.

Many parties refuse to cooperate with de Moss

D66, GroenLinks and PvdA all refused to cooperate with Hart voor Den Haag, because party founder and leader De Mos is suspected of official corruption. When he was an alderman, he preferred the friends of entrepreneurs. Investigations are still ongoing.

Two scouts from D66, the second party in The Hague, tried to form a majority, but that also failed. The VVD did not want to attend a lecture with the PvdA. After mediation by former minister Pete Hein Donner, the VVD finally surrendered.
