Gordon Mathers will appear in three World Championships this month. The 40-year-old Australian hopes to restore confidence.
The three World Series tournaments will be held in Australia and New Zealand. Mathers played a world championship in 2013 and 2018, but never won a match. “I’ve never really gotten to my best level on the podium, and now I’m going to. With all the experience I’ve had on the Pro Tour, I hope I can show the world what I can do. I don’t feel pressured,” Mathers says. PDC.
Mathers received his tourist card in 2021 and has lived in England ever since. “I miss my family very much, not only my wife and two children, but also my three brothers and my sister. I am from a close family so it was very difficult, but I don’t regret it.”

Simon Whitlock has been and continues to be a huge supporter of Mathers. “Without Simon, I wouldn’t be here. Then I had to come home to work from 9 to 5. In the first nine months I learned a lot from him, his son Mason and Corinne Hammond helped me a lot Simon took me under his wing, offered me a bedroom and said it’s my room whenever I wanted. When my family came for six months, I moved, but when they came back Simon didn’t hesitate to say I got my old room back.”
“After the 2020 World Cup, he changed points in darts, he made me train well, and without that, I don’t think I would have done that with Q-School,” Mathers continued. “I owe him everything for what he’s done for me over the past two years. Without him I don’t think the world championships in Australia would have happened.”
