Prince Edward wished the Commonwealth Games participants the best of luck with their upcoming sporting achievements on Thursday. In a message on the British royal family’s Instagram account, the Duke of Wessex wrote on Thursday that all people taking part in the 11-day sporting event will be enjoying it.

“The stage is set and the show is about to begin,” wrote Edward, associated with the event as deputy sponsor. “To everyone involved in the production, whether it was behind the scenes or in front of the house, thank you, good luck and have fun. I know from all your preparation that you want to make Birmingham 2022 a great and memorable experience.”

Queen Elizabeth’s youngest son, who will be appearing regularly at the sporting event due to his role, hopes the participants will be inspired to participate. “Those who really need to step up the stage, performers and those up for competition, I wish the best of luck, to bring out their best and inspire the next generation. Whatever your role or involvement, I hope you enjoy the experience of a lifetime and enjoy every moment.”

The Commonwealth Games, hosted by Birmingham, kick off on Thursday night and promise to be the UK’s biggest sporting festival since the London Olympics a decade ago. Queen Elizabeth will not attend due to her poor health.
