Fred Tiffin, former attorney general, Detective Fiod and Secretary of State for Justice, was named the new chief of Nederlandse Brouwers this week. This was announced by the interest group for brewers.

Members of the Nederlandse Brouwers account for 95 percent of beer production in the Netherlands, including majors such as Heineken and AB InBev. “I am committed to ensuring that everyone can continue to enjoy a glass of beer,” Tiffin says.

After leaving politics, the ex-minister began working as a bus driver. “He has a lot of experience,” Nederlandse Brouwers said. “At the stage we are in as a beer sector, we can put that to very good use.”

In his new position at the breweries, Tiffin focuses squarely on his former colleagues in The Hague. It will focus on how to implement the so-called Prevention Agreement, which aims to prevent alcohol abuse.

“The discussion shouldn’t turn to how we can make it as difficult as possible for the Dutch to enjoy a glass of beer. That’s the kind of gossip that I don’t feel at home,” says Tiffin.

He wants, for example, to scrap the big doubling of the consumer tax on non-alcoholic beer, planned for next year, again.
