The US Department of Justice has accused Fiat Chrysler, now part of Stylantis, of lying to authorities and consumers about emissions of more than 100,000 Jeeps and Rams. Fiat Chrysler has now accepted a $96 million fine.

In addition, the automaker will also return 204 million in profits made through fraud. The automaker had already reached an earlier settlement with US authorities in 2019 worth $515 million. Then Fiat Chrysler also committed to adapting the affected cars.

However, the agreement had no effect on any criminal prosecution.

Car maker Fiat Chrysler has pleaded guilty in the United States to tampering with the diesel emissions of more than 100,000 vehicles. The automaker will pay $300 million (279.85 million euros) in damages.
