Defense has fewer and fewer military equipment to give up to Ukraine. That is why the ministry is investigating the prospects of buying more military resources for the Ukrainians, Minister Kajsa Olongren and Foreign Minister Christoph van der Maat wrote to the House of Representatives on Tuesday. It is also examined whether Kyiv’s requests can be met with other countries.

The Netherlands has been supplying arms to Ukraine since the country was attacked by Russia more than three months ago. Initially, the Ministry of Defense provided mainly lighter equipment, but for some time it included heavier equipment such as armored vehicles and howitzers. Military goods worth more than 100 million euros have already gone to Ukraine.

The ministers said that the deliveries had no consequences for the readiness of the armed forces. Defense provided surplus equipment or it will be disposed of.

In addition, items were sent from stocks, provided that they would be replenished in a timely manner. Over time, the possibility of supplying Ukraine with military equipment from its stockpile decreases.

The Netherlands will continue to support Ukraine, Ollongren and van der Maat emphasized in their letter to Parliament. “The Cabinet considers it important to contribute to the Ukrainian self-defense.”
