German car group Volkswagen has reached a settlement in the UK worth 193 million pounds, which transferred 227 million euros, over the diesel scandal. This settlement was reached with a group of about 91,000 owners of cars from Volkswagen and its sub-brands Skoda, Audi and Seat.

The group filed a joint lawsuit against Volkswagen in 2016 for manipulating diesel engine emissions.

Volkswagen will also pay, among other things, the plaintiffs’ legal costs, but says it will not make any concessions on liability. The company says the settlement will prevent the high costs of lawsuits and appeals. “The Volkswagen Group is pleased to have been able to conclude this lengthy legal process in England and Wales,” a statement said.

The company also talks about a new milestone in ending the “unfortunate events” surrounding the diesel scandal that emerged in 2015. In addition, with special programs, diesel cars’ emissions during tests were lower than in reality. Volkswagen had to spend billions around the world on settlements and fines over the scandal.

The law firm that helped the complainants says it is proud of the deal reached with Volkswagen. “Settlement eliminates a long, complex and costly process and we are pleased to have reached this settlement for our clients in a collective claim.”
