Eileen van Dijk broke the world clock record on Monday in Grinchen, Switzerland.

The 35-year-old Dutchman reached 49,254 kilometers. In doing so, it hides more than the previous record held by Briton Jos Lodin, who traveled 48,405 kilometers less than last year. Van Dijk is the third Dutchman to win the world record for a watch. Previously successful Keetie van Oosten-Hage (1978) and Leontien van Moorsel (2003).

    a plan

Van Dijk was on track from the start to break the record, steadily expanding her margins. “I was a bit nervous beforehand with all these people who were working for me. But once I started, it went really well from the start. If I was feeling good, I wanted to hurry up after half an hour. The latter is no longer working, but no It’s okay that way.”

For the Trek-Segafredo rider, this is one of his greatest accomplishments on two wheels. She was already a two-time world champion in the trial and a world champion on the track (point zero).

    Goal

She won the Tour of Flanders and is a European Road Champion. “But that was actually a goal since I joined this team four years ago. And it seemed like a really cool thing to do when Leonten broke her record. I’m so glad I made it now. But it was heavy. Everything got a little blurry at the end and I was So glad to hear it’s over. However it was a great project.”

Van Dijk does not yet know if she wants to attack the record again in the future. “I will first celebrate this ‘victory’ with my family here in Grinchen.”
