Queen Elizabeth is expected to spend her 96th birthday (21.04.22) in Sandringham.

The British Queen – who has struggled with mobility issues in recent months – is said to have chosen to take the opportunity at the Norfolk home of the royal family to feel close to her late husband Prince Philip.

A source told the Daily Mirror: “The Queen recently decided on her birthday to be as close as possible to her late husband and in an environment close to their hearts. Sandringham also holds many special memories for the Queen and Prince Philip. Like the rest of the royal family.”

The Queen resides on Wood Farm, where Philip – who died last April at the age of 99 – lived after retiring in 2017.

Relatives will spend time with the royal family during their stay.

Ahead of her birthday, the Queen paid a special visit from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to Windsor Castle.

The Queen’s grandson and his wife stopped to see Prince Harry’s grandmother before heading to the Netherlands for the Invictus Games, and the king expressed some messages of support for the participating athletes.

Harry told the BBC: “She had a lot of messages for the British team which she had already sent to most of them.

“So, it was great seeing her and I’m sure she’d love to be here if she could.”

The visit was the Duchess’ first trip to the UK since 2020, while the Duke is said to have last visited the UK in July.

Harry was a notable absentee from his grandfather’s memorial service, the Duke of Edinburgh, in London in March.

The royal couple – now based in the US, having married in 2018 – resigned their positions as senior members of the royal family in January 2020.

The 37-year-old previously claimed he was unable to return to the UK due to concerns about his family’s security arrangements.
