Sprinter Jacobs beats World Cup holders Coleman by 60 metres

BELGRADE (AP) – Italian Lamont athlete Marcel Jacobs won the gold medal in the 60-meter race at the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade. The Olympic 100-meter champion beat defending champion Christian Coleman of the United States by a narrow margin. Bronze went to another American, Marvin Prause.

Jacobs came in 6.41secs and was faster than Coleman in milliseconds. The American sprinter had a better start, but suffered a loss.

Coleman missed the 100m race at the Tokyo Olympics last summer. The reigning world champion on this track was initially given a two-year suspension due to the loss of three doping controls within a year. CAS showed some leniency and reduced the suspension to eighteen months, but Coleman was still absent from Tokyo.

Ryan Crozier was surprisingly defeated by throwing the ball. The US Olympic champion, unbeaten for two seasons, had to leave the world title to Brazilian Darlan Romani. At a height of 22.53 meters, he hit 9 centimeters farther than the cruiser.

US Olympic champion Katie Nugget was also defeated in the pole vault. Her compatriot Sandy Morris cemented her world indoor title with 4.80 metres. Nageotte reached 4.75 meters, good for silver.

Canadian Damien Warner won his first world title in the heptathlon. Tokyo Olympic decathlon champion Simon Emer overtook Swiss in the standings with a powerful 1,000m closing. Warner finished at 6,489 points and Emmer finished at 6,363 points.

Jeremy Richards was the best in the 400 metres. The athlete from Trinidad and Tobago won with a time of 45.00 seconds. Spain’s Mariano Garcia won the gold medal in the 800m with a time of 1.46.20. Ethiopia’s Godaf Tsegae won the world title in the 1500 meters with a record of 3.57.19.
