On Monday, the United Nations Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths called on the warring factions in Ukraine to allow the safe passage of civilians to leave the areas where the fighting is taking place. They should also be able to choose for themselves the direction in which to leave.

Griffiths also called for the safe passage of humanitarian supplies to areas where they are needed. The coordinator told the UN Security Council that his office had sent a team to Moscow to better coordinate aid in the region.

US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas Greenfield said Monday that the United States is “outraged” by increasing reports of Russian attacks that have killed Ukrainian civilians. It called for a cessation of hostilities to allow the safe passage of civilians wishing to leave conflict areas.

    Arrival of humanitarian aid

In a speech to the United Nations Security Council, Thomas Greenfield also called for Russian commitments that would enable and facilitate immediate and unhindered humanitarian access for aid workers in Ukraine.

The Russians and Ukrainians held the third round of peace talks on Monday. According to the Ukrainian delegation, this led to small positive developments in the escape routes of civilians from the besieged Ukrainian cities. These are the so-called human corridors. However, according to Ukrainian negotiators, no result was achieved, the situation improved “significantly”. The Russians thought it was too early to talk about anything positive.
