Edwin Jongins as head coach has left clean jumpers and Ramon de Meijer as successor | sports

Brian Rodriguez, December 28, 2021

Ramon de Maijer will succeed Edwin Jongejans as the Dutch diving national coach effective February 1, 2022. Jongejans has a new job in Australia.

De Meijer has been appointed by the KNZB as the national youth coach since 2016 and has also served as the Jongejans’ assistant in recent years. I’m so sorry Edwin is leaving, because I’ve been wanting to work with him for a few more years. I recently learned a lot from Edwin. De Meijer says it’s now a big step and a challenge for me to succeed him.

Jongejans, the former 1m skateboard world champion, has been the national coach since 2018. Under his leadership, Inge Janssen (3m skateboard) and Celine van Duijn (10m turret) became European champions and both also managed to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics. . Van Doyen finished 10th and Janssen’s best-ever Olympic performance finished 5th.

Jongejans becomes performance coach in Brisbane

Jongejans became a performance coach at the Queensland Sports Academy in Brisbane, one of the Olympic training centers for Australian diving. “With the Brisbane Olympics in 2032 emerging as a looming point, it’s a great opportunity for me personally to get started in Australia,” said Jungians.

Andre Katz, head coach of the KNZB Swimming Association, regrets the Jongejans’ departure. “We would have liked to have continued with him, but of course we respect his choice to leave for Australia. Moreover, we are confident that his assistant, Ramon de Maijer, can continue the course that both have set, as head coach as well. The progression of his ‘box of talent’ offers great prospects for the future. We shouldn’t immediately expect surprises from these Paris jumpers, but there is certainly the potential for the Olympics next.”
