December 11, 2021 Bert van Marwijk must fear for his job as UAE national coach. Local media reported on Saturday evening that the country’s union will meet on Monday morning to decide on the future of the experienced coach.
The UAE Football Association is led by and advised by a specially created committee. This group of people came to the difficult conclusion that they could not continue with Van Marwijk at the helm. Abdul Aziz Al Yasi at the top of the committee’s wish list to succeed the national coach.
It is not known how the association stands. The possible reason for the expulsion is the painful elimination in the Arab Cup quarter-finals. Qatar was very strong 5-0 in the quarter-finals. Also in the battle to qualify for the World Cup, the country needs a miracle to secure its place.
Van Marwijk reached the World Cup final with the Dutch national team in 2010. After that, he was at the helm of HSV in Saudi Arabia, Australia and subsequently the United Arab Emirates. He was also a coach for Fortuna Sittard, Feyenoord and Borussia Dortmund in the past. In 2002 he won the European Cup with the Rotterdam team.
