Heineken to invest in Surinamese brewery expansion
Reinoud Ottervanger – General Manager of the Surinamese Brewery

Heineken Brewery will invest several million euros in the expansion of Surinaamse Brouwerij NV, which will enable the Suriname company, which has been a subsidiary of Heineken since 1968, to produce 50 million liters of beer annually.

For the past 66 years, beer producers in Suriname have not been allowed to produce more than 20 million liters of beer annually. But due to an amendment to the law approved by the Parliament of Suriname last week, there is an expansion to 2.5 times as much as possible.

Surinamese Brouwerij, which only had space to brew PARBO beer, can now produce Heineken itself in Suriname due to expansion, and this presents opportunities, says manager Reinoud Ottervanger of Surinamese brewery vs nu.nl

He sees opportunities to export Heineken and PARBO beers to, among others, the Netherlands, Curaçao, the neighboring countries of French Guiana, Guyana and possibly also America.

The higher production limit could generate €7 million in indirect tax revenue for the Government of Suriname. The news site said it is also in line with President Santoji’s government’s policy to boost domestic production and exports.
