Colin Kaepernick compares NFL tactics with slavery in Netflix special

Colin Kaepernick compares NFL tactics with slavery in Netflix special

Michael McCann, November 1, 2021

Colin Kaepernick likens the NFL draft process to auctioning slaves on his new Netflix special — with black “athletes” in fetters and white “angels” beating them up.

The former NFL player uses this analogy in his drama series “Coleen in Black and White” to depict the contest drafting process and training camp.

“What they don’t want you to understand is that a power dynamic is being created,” said Kaepernick, the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback.

“Before they put you on the field, teams cheat, push and check you for any flaws that might affect your performance. No respect for boundaries. No more dignity.”

Then the Netflix special goes to a group of black actors who play NFL prospects turned slaves at auction with strings attached. Immediately, the owners of the white slaves introduced and beat them.

“Look here! Let’s go! Who wants this?” cried the auctioneer.

Critics have challenged the comparison to slavery on social media.

“How dare @Kaepernick7 compare the evil of so many of our ancestors to a group of millionaires who chose to play the game,” wrote Utah Republican Representative Burgess Owens, a former NFL player. on Twitter.

Radio host Clay Travis He added, “Colin Kaepernick likens the NFL group, which offers players of all races a voluntary opportunity to become millionaires, to slavery.

“Anyone who still advocates for these idiots doesn’t have a functional brain.”

Netflix released the limited series on Friday, calling the special a record of Kaepernick’s “official years navigating race, class, and culture while striving for greatness.”

Kaepernick caused controversy in 2016 when he knelt during the national anthem at the Games to protest police brutality and racism in the United States. He left the NFL that same year and hasn’t signed with any team since.
