Max Verstappen was allowed to start the race in Texas from pole position, but immediately saw Lewis Hamilton come to the inside side. It turned out to be a prelude to a beautiful tactical battle between Red Bull and Mercedes. The former team continually opted to cut back, resulting in a nerve-wracking final stage. Hamilton was able to count on tires that were the latest eight laps, but he was not able to outsmart Verstappen. With the Briton taking the fastest lap of the race, Verstappen extends his lead by six points. The new difference between the two men is twelve points.

With the constructors, Mercedes logically retained the lead, even though Red Bull earned thirteen points by finishing a double podium finish. A penalty kick by Valtteri Bottas, who finished sixth in the finish, helped to score the winning goal. With five races remaining, Christian Horner’s brigade still has 23 points to make up. Beyond that, it’s even more exciting in the fight for third place. Ferrari gets four points more from Austin than McLaren, and has to make up as many points in the remainder of this year to seal the exciting battle in his favour.
