The economy is in good shape. “A year ago we had signed this blindly.” This is what Minister Wopke Hoekstra (Finance, CDA) said in the House of Representatives, as he presented the budget for next year.

Hoekstra praised the “resilient” of the economy, but also of the citizens. Flexibility in society, government, through economic support packages. of people in care, teachers, and agents.”

According to him, the economy is “looking remarkably well”, according to Hoekstra, in part due to the “unprecedented support packages” the government has provided to businesses. “Government finances are in better shape than previously expected. We signed this order a year ago.”

He has said that this won’t translate into a thicker wallet or more happiness in life, not even next year. “Those who lost someone, lost their jobs, never returned to their normal lives.”

Hoekstra has announced “urgent investments” for the coming year. It was previously leaked that the Cabinet is allocating 6.8 billion euros for additional climate measures due to Urgenda’s ruling. The money goes mainly to subsidies, for example to stimulate electric driving and home insulation. An additional half a billion euros will be dedicated to fighting organized crime and social advocacy.
