The South African Tourism Services Association (SATSA) has criticized the UK government for not removing South Africa from its “red list” for travel, saying it has not provided any evidence to support its policies.
She said the UK government had stated that South Africa would remain on the red list because it “continues to pose a significant public health risk to the UK due to known variables”. She cited reports from the Joint Biosecurity Council, which she said was evidence of the data he used. However, the reports only show data for countries that switched from one stop sign color to another, with no data for South Africa, she said.

She said that based on the evidence, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the United States and China were among the countries that reopened travel to South Africa.
David Frost, chief executive of SATSA, South Africa’s representative body for inbound tourism, said: “If you don’t agree with recent scientific assessments of South Africa’s security, you should explain why…the UK offers these people a better explanation.
